Inspiring projects: study on measures to combat the Asian wasp

Authors:

Erik, Amagoia and Violeta.

Area:

Ecology, Technology. Level: 3rd and 4th year secondary school.

Challenge:

We will design different traps for capturing Asian wasps, and find out which one is the most effective. We will speak to an entomologist and then design three traps. We will also test three substances for attracting wasps.

Teacher’s notes:

The key element here is the involvement of external researchers, as without the help of an entomologist or bee keeper the project would be much more difficult. As well as providing technical support, the involvement of experts will make the project seem more authentic to the students. The most difficult part is obtaining permission to place traps in the hives.
